This cartridge has a 62 grain FMJ bullet. Its relatively heavier weight gives the bullet a higher ballistic coefficient at the expense of a lower muzzle velocity than a 55 grain projectile. It offers the best accuracy out of a 1:8 or 1:9 twist barrel, but a 1:7 twist barrel will not perform poorly.
The SS109’s jacket does not have a green tip like the M855, but the bullet’s interior is otherwise the same. The frontal section of its core is made of solid steel, which is why it’s able to penetrate barriers while remaining intact so effectively. Steel is magnetic, of course, which means this ammo may be unacceptable for use at some indoor ranges as well as unsuitable for shooting steel targets.
